A magnificent 62 on Saturday earned Jacques Kruyswijk a two-stroke lead going into the final round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate.

Kruyswijk produced a bogey-free round highlighted by an eagle-two at the par-four eighth – his 17th – to move to 12-under-par.

His nearest challengers are George Coetzee and Ryan van Velzen on 10-under after rounds of 65 and 64 respectively.

Kruyswijk is targeting a second Vodacom Origins of Golf title, now as a far more seasoned player than when he won in 2023.

“Today was special,” he said. “I always play well in the Cape. I managed the course well and that gave me a lot of scoring opportunities. If you get momentum here, there are plenty of chances to score.

“I’m looking forward to the final round. I’m getting a bit older, so there’s more experience coming in – hopefully that will show.”

Coetzee, meanwhile, has his own motivation for Sunday on a series where he claimed his maiden Sunshine Tour victory back in 2007.

A win would move him into second place on the all-time Vodacom Origins list with six titles, behind Jean Hugo’s 12.

“The Vodacom Origins series has been there for my whole career,” said Coetzee. “It was my first professional victory. They’ve been great to the Sunshine Tour and very loyal – as players we’re grateful for that.”

The 38-year-old birdied his opening three holes and added another two before the turn. His back nine featured a single bogey and two birdies.

“I didn’t feel like I was playing superb golf but I capitalised on the holes I played well on. I was very disappointed with the bogey at the 11th because I had a five-iron in on a par five and made bogey. But my caddie told me to get over it.”

Gabrielle Venter was the only Sunshine Ladies Tour player to make the cut and will tee off on Sunday at two-under after her 71.
