Justin Walters made five birdies on Friday as he continued to try and get himself in position to regain his DP World Tour card in the second round of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by the R&A at Club de Golf Alcanada in Port d’Alcúdia, Mallorca.

But three bogeys stymied his efforts as he carded a two-under-par 70 to reach four-under-par through the halfway mark in a share of 20th. He’s going to need more than that if he is to get into the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca rankings and be one of the players who gains promotion.

The season-finale continued to be led by Spain’s Angel Ayora, who had a bogey-free seven-under-par 67 to reach 17-under. That put him two strokes clear of Kristoffer Reitan of Norway, and five ahead of Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark who was in third on 12-under-par.

Deon Germishuys slipped to a five-over 77 in the second round with two birdies, five bogeys and a double-bogey dropping him to one-over through 36 holes at a share of 40th in the 45-man field. He, however, is almost assured of gaining his DP World Tour playing privileges, no matter the outcome in Mallorca.

Wilco Nienaber, on the other hand, has no such assurance, and his two-over 74 left him in a share of 44th on two-over. He will need a supreme weekend to finish inside the top 20.
