Justin Walters made seven birdies in the third round of the DP World Tour’s Made in HimmerLand tournament in Denmark on Saturday to set himself up for a shot at what would be a first victory on that circuit.
Walters carded a five-under-par 66 to move to 15-under-par for the week. That put him in a share of sixth, two shots off the lead heading into the final round. The lead was shared by a former Sunshine Tour regular in Italy’s Francesco Laporta, and three Englisnmen, Oliver Wilson, Matthew Southgate and Ross McGowan, who is a Sunshine Tour winner himself. In fourth place, one stroke off the lead, was Matthew Jordan of England, who had the round of the day with his nine-under 62.
Walters had three birdies on the front nine, with a bogey on the sixth, and four birdies on the homeward nine with a bogey on the 12th. He shared sixth with Scot Ewen Ferguson and Tom Lewis of England.
Next best of the South Africans remaining in the field after the cut was Darren Fichardt, who signed for a two-under 69 in the third round to move to nine-under for the tournament and a share of 26th.
George Coetzee had a one-under 70 to be in a share of 34th on eight-under, while Zander Lombard signed for a two-under 69 to be on seven-under in a share of 43rd. Justin Harding and Thomas Aiken were on five-under after rounds of one-under 70 each.
