Where they’re playing: Zebula Country Club Vodacom Origins of Golf

Aug 10, 2023 | Featured, Features

Located near Bela Bela in Limpopo and only two hours from Joburg, Zebula Country Club is the venue for the first Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament of the 2023-24 season.

The bushveld setting makes Zebula one of the real gems in South Africa. Surrounded by the Waterberg Mountains, game lodges, and nature and wildlife reserves, the course’s wide fairways are framed by indigenous grasses and a variety of trees, with the greens providing smooth putting surfaces.

Designed by Peter Matkovich in 2003, this user-friendly layout lies on rather flat terrain with every hole isolated, meaning there is no interference from players on other holes.

Feature holes include the relatively tough par-four first, which has a 90 degree dogleg to the right and an elevated green, and the unique par-five 15th with its split fairway. The signature par-three eighth has a raised green guarded by three bunkers and water on three sides. When the wind is up, the hole plays tougher than the stroke 15 suggests.

With an excellent climate and sufficient water, Zebula is generally well-maintained throughout the year. The only five-star golfing resort in the country, golfers are guaranteed a memorable time when they play this modern, character-filled course surrounded by natural beauty.
