Robin Williams couldn’t get things going on the front nine on Sunday, but a two-under-par 69 in the final round of the Challenge Tour’s Kaskáda Golf Challenge at Golf Resort Kaskáda in Brno, Czech Republic gave a runner-up finish.
Williams led by three heading into the final round, but a slow front nine with two birdies and two bogeys left him with plenty of work to do to hold off the hard-charging Dane Hamish Brown. Despite two birdies with no dropped shots on the homeward nine, Williams finished two strokes behind Brown.
While Williams was struggling on that front nine, Brown drew level with the South African with four birdies and no dropped shots after starting four back. He kept up the momentum with five birdies on his way home, and not even a dropped shot on the 14th was enough to give his pursuers any real hope of catching him at 18-under-par.
Brown eventually signed for an eight-under-par 63 to hold off Williams comfortably. Germany’s Jannik de Bruyn was third on 15-under after his closing five-under 66, while Dane Lucas Bjerregaard and England’s Ben Schmidt shared fourth on 14-under.
Wilco Nienaber finished the week on 10-under in a share of 11th after a closing four-under-par 67/
Tristen Strydom salvaged a share of 62nd on one-under with his closing 67, one ahead of Deon Germishuys, who had a one-over 72 to finish level-par in 55th. Oliver Bekker closed with a 73 to finish in 60th.
Brown climbs from 31st to fifth in the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings with a win to boost his chances of promotion to the DP World Tour.
Williams had a 17-place boost to sixth, and, although he already has a spot on the DP World Tour next season through his second-place finish on last season’s Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, he is looking good to secure that spot in another way.
