Robin Williams shrugged off the effects of two bogeys in a row on Friday on his way to a three-under-par 68 in the second round of the Challenge Tour’s Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort in Portugal.
That took him to six-under through the halfway mark of the tournament and a share of sixth. He was four shots off the pace which was set by Benjamon Hebert of France, who had a bogey-free six-under-par 65 to move to 10-under. Hebert was two shots clear of Ryan Lumsden of Scotland, with three players in a share of third on seven-under. Williams shared sixth with three other players.
The South African rookie of the year from last season had a birdie on the second hole, but he dropped a shot on each of the next two holes. He righted the ship with a birdie on the fifth to turn in level-par, and then he made three birdies on the back nine.
Behind him, on four-under in a share of 12th, was JC Ritchie, who also had a second round of three-under-par 68. Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith was also on four-under after a second round of one-under-par 70.
Wilco Nienaber had a typically up-and-down round with seven birdies and five bogeys in his two-under-par 70. He was on three-under in a share of 23rd.
Deon Germishuys had his second round in a row at level-par, and made the cut on the number in a share of 55th.
Bryce Easton, Louis Albertse and Rhyse Enoch missed the cut.
