Williams inside world’s top 200 on Official World Golf Ranking list

Robin Williams got inside the world’s top 200 players in the latest Official World Golf Ranking list issued this week with his victory in the Sunshine Tour’s Fortress Invitational at Glendower Golf Club.

Williams, who started the year ranked 834^th, climbed 18 places from 214^th to 196^th as he defended the title which brought him his first Sunshine Tour victory last year.

In climbing to his career-high ranking, he passed Zander Lombard on the list of South Africa’s top players according to the rankings, moving into fifth amongst local players and heading towards Dean Burmester who is South Africa’s fourth-ranked player. Burmester is slipping down from where he should be ranked since his move to LIV Golf a year ago.

Getting a good boost from a fine performance on the DP World Tour was Jacques Kruyswijk, who bounced up 79 places to 384^th with his share of seventh in the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters. His career-high was 192^nd, but his best performance according to the ranking criteria since his victory in the Dormy Open on the Challenge Tout last year has reversed a trend that had been progressively downward this year.

Two other players who turned good performances in Spain into climbs up the rankings were Brandon Stone and Jayden Schaper. Stone was up 16 places, and into the top 300, to 282^nd, and Schaper was up 13 spots to 302^nd.

On the Sunshine Tour, Daniel van Tonder’s second-place finish behind Williams saw him jump 30 places to 407^th.

South Africa’s top-ranked golfer is Thriston Lawrence, down one place in 49^th. That’s one clear of Christiaan Bezuidenhout in 50^th.

Outside South Africa’s top 25, Jonathan Broomhead climbed inside the world’s top 500 with his share of fifth at Glendower. He was up 13 places to 489^th. Ahead of him on the leaderboard in a share of third, Yurav Premlall climbed to 569^th from 601^st.
