Williams reaches career-high position on latest world rankings

Robin Williams reached a career-high ranking of 309^th this week on the latest list released by the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to last week’s top-five finish in the Challenge Tour tournament in Northern Ireland.

It was a 21-place climb for Williams, the Sunshine Tour’s Rookie of the Year in the 2023-24 season. Hi finished second on the Order of Merit too, which won him a spot on next season’s DP Wolrd Tour which gets underway in November.

It was his fifth top-10 performance of the season for Williams on the Challenge Tour as he plays in European events ahead of his elevation to the main tour.

He wasn’t the biggest climber amongst the top 25 South Africans on the official world rankings list, as Jaco Ahlers jumped 56 places thanks to his victory in the Sunshine Tour’s SunBet Challenge event at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club. He was in 347^th after that win.

Brandon Stone also had a good boost from that local tournament, climbing 14 places to 345^th, as did Shaun Norris, who had a closing 60 at the Wild Coast and was up seven places to 331^st.

Outside the top 25, Keegan Mclachlan went up 145 places – from 1,295 to 1,150 – after finishing fourth at the Wild Coast.

South Africa’s top golfer ahead of his upcoming performance at the Olympic Games remained Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 46^th. His teammate in Paris, Erik van Rooyen, was also unchanged at 69^th.
