Dean Burmester held on for a share of eighth on Sunday with a closing two-under-par 68 in the final round of the 54-hole event taking him to 10-under-par in LIV Golf Hong Kong.

Burmerster had opened with a seven-under-par 63 to share the first-round lead with eventual winner Abraham Ancer of Mexico, but his second-round 69 and his third round weren’t enough to keep him touch with the 13-under-par which was shared by Ancer, England’s Paul Casey and Australian Cameron Smith. Ancer prevailed on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off.

Burmester made three birdies in a row on the 12th, 13th and 14th after starting his round in the shotgun start on the second, and making a bogey on the sixth. He shared eighth with six other players, including Jon Rahm of Spain.

Louis Oosthuizen carded a closing two-under 68 to finish on eight-under in a share of 19th, while Charl Schwartzel had a level-par 70 to finish in a share of 41st on two-under. Branden Grace had a two-over 72 to finish on one-under in a share of 45th in the 54-man field.

The all-South African team, Stinger GC, was unable to match its opening 16-under in either of the next two rounds, managing just three-under in the second round and two-under in the third to finish on 21-under in ninth place behind winners Crushers GC led by Bryson DeChambeau.
