Despite two late bogeys on Saturday, Jayden Schaper played himself into the top 10 in the DP World Tour’s acciona Open de España presented by Madrid at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in Madrid with a third round of six-under-par 65.

Schaper moved to five-under-par for the tournament through 54 holes, eight strokes off the lead. Up front since the first round was Spaniard Angel Hidalgo, who moved to 13-under with a third round of three-under-par 68. Hidalgo was two shots clear of compatriot Jon Rahm, who is chasing a fourth national open title. Rahm had a 66, as did his fellow-LIV player, David Puig, who was in third on 10-under.

Schaper made three birdies and an eagle on the front nine in a fabulous start, and then picked up another shot after the turn on the 11th. He dropped a shot on the 12th, and another on the 17th, but, sandwiched between those bogeys were successive birdies on 15 and 16. After that, he shared ninth with Sean Crocker, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Jimmy Walker.

Louis de Jager had his third one-under-par 70 in a row, and, at three-under, was in a share of 22nd heading into the final round.

Jacques Kruyswijk had a level-par 71, and was one-under in a share of 52nd, while Dylan Frittelli also had a 71 in the third round and was in a share of 62nd on two-over-par.
