Garrick Higgo kept up his steady improvement on Saturday with a four-under-par 67 in the third round of the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship lifting him into a share of 23rd on nine-under-par.

It was a day on which the wind became treacherous towards the end of the round at Port Royal Golf Course, with gusts topping 65 kilometres an hour, and Higgo went one better for the second day in a row after his opening 69. He followed that with a 68 and then made an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys in his third round.

Rafael Campos of Puerto Rico celebrated the birth of his daughter on Monday and now is in position for another big moment. He set a personal best with a nine-under 62 to share the lead. Andrew Novak of the United States also shot a 62 and caught a break on the 18th when his tee shot was rolling back down a cart path and hopped onto the grass. Justin Lower, who began the blustery day with a 62, drove into the water on the par-5 18th and scrambled for a bogey for a 68 to finish one shot behind.

Christo Lamprecht climbed 20 places on the leaderboard to a share of 39th with his five-under-par 66 in the third round. He was bogey-free with two birdies on the front nine and three on the back.
