Shaun Norris is on the rise on the latest list of the Official World Golf Ranking published this week after his top-10 finish on the DP World Tour saw him climb 13 places to 109th.
His share of sixth at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic was the latest in a strong of good performances, including a victory in Japan and another at the Alfred Dunhill Championship towards the end of last year. It took him closer towards the world’s top 100, although he is some way off his career-best of 54th.
Those South Africans who performed well in the tournament also got substantial boosts to their rankings: Jayden Schaper was up 18 to 276th, Casey Jarvis was up 13 to 287th and Dylan Frittelli was up 46 to 313th. And even though Robin Williams had a blowout in his third round, he recovered enough to go up two places to 204th.
Barend Bothat’s good showing in the Bahamas on the Korn Ferry Tour was rewarded with a 36-place climb to 277th, his career-high.
The Sunshine Tour event, The Mediclinic Invitational at Heron Banks, was good for Daniel van Tonder, even though he was unable to pull off the victory: He jumped 25 places to 386th, and his renewed form bodes well for a revival of his international fortunes.
South Africa’s top player remains Thriston Lawrence, down one spot to 50th after a missed cut in Dubai.
