Adilson Da Silva started his 2025 campaign with a three-under-par 70 on Thursday in the opening round of the PGA Tour Champions season-opening Trophy Hassan II at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, Morocco.
The 2024 Legends Tour Order of Merit winner made an early bogey on the third, but he followed that with four birdies in a row from the fifth to reach the turn in three-under. Bogeys on the 10th and the 15th stalled his progress, but he made two birdies in a row on the final two holes to end the first round in a share third.
He’s in the field thanks to his exploits on the Legends Tour, and will relish the opportunity to show he could belong on the famously difficult to penetrate the notoriously closed shop of the PGA Tour Champions circuit.
Ahead of him, the lead was shared by Simon Griffiths, who lost out to Peter Baker in the Legends Tour’s MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius in December, and one of the dominant players on the PGA Tour Champions, Steven Alker of New Zealand. They were on four-under. Da Silva was part of a seven-way share of third, and there were five players on two-under in a share of 10th.
On one-under, after reaching three-under through eight holes, Ernie Els, the winner of the Schwab Cup on the PGA Tour Champions last year, was in a share of 15th.
Retief Goosen battled his way to a six-over 79 and a share of 59th in the 66-man field.
