Garrick Higgo made five birdies in a row on Thursday on his way to a five-under-par 65 in the first round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard at Country Club de Bogota in Bogota, Colombia.
After opening with four pars, Higgo reeled off those five gains ahead of the turn which he reached in 30. On the back nine, he made two more birdies and two bogeys as he finished the day in a share of 12th place.
Up front, three shots ahead of Higgo, American Rick Lamb had a bogey-free 62 with an eagle and six birdies. He led by one from amateur Estaban Jaramillo of Colombia and Fabian Gomez of Argentina. There were eight players in a share of fourth on six-under, and Higgo shared 12th with nine other players.
Christo Lamprecht opened with a two-under-par 68 for a share of 60th, while Barend Botha’s level-par 70 left him down in a share of 80th.
MJ Daffue withdrew from the tournament.
