With his closing four-under-par 67 on Sunday, Thriston Lawrence re-established himself as a force on the DP World Tour as he finished in a share of fourth in the Soudal Open at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp, Belgium.
After missing nine cuts in his first 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour after he played his way on to that circuit, he returned to more familiar territory, and he was immediately more comfortable.
Although he battled to make any headway on the lead in the second and third rounds, he held it together and went bogey-free in the final round to finish the week on 10-under-par, three strokes out of the three-way play-off for the title.
The tournament was won by Kristoffer Reitan of Belgium on the first extra hole, on which he made birdie, while Ewen Ferguson of Scotland and Darius van Driel of the Netherlands made par. Reitan’s maiden DP World Tour title came after a stunning course-record 62 in the final round elevated him into the play-off.
Casey Jarvis was the next-best of the South Africans who made the cut, with his closing three-under 68 giving him a share of 37th on three-under-par.
Thomas Aiken closed with a level-par 71 for a share of 49th on one-under, while Robin Williams had a one-over 72 in the final round to finish on level-par in a share of 59th.
