Shaun Norris carded a closing one-under-par 70 on Sunday to slip one spot down the leaderboard and claim fourth place in the DP World Tour’s Volvo China Open at Shanghai Enhance Anting Golf Club in Shanghai.
Norris had to overcome an early triple-bogey eight on the par-five third hole after he had started well with a birdie on the first hole. He made five more birdies and dropped two more shots as he finished on 13-under-par for the tournament. That was five shots behind the winner, Bernd Wiesberger of Austria.
Wiesberger produced a stirring performance on the back nine to claim his first DP World Tour title in five years. The Austrian had been a picture of consistency during the week and trailed Adrian Otaegui by one shot heading into the final round.
It soon became a two-way tussle for the title as the final group surged clear of the field, however, Otaegui reached the turn with a three-shot lead at 19-under. A scoring burst of three birdies in four holes saw Wiesberger reel in Otaegui before taking the outright lead at the 16th when Otaegui dropped his second shot in five holes. Otaegui got in trouble down the last and Wiesberger played conservatively to seal his ninth DP World Tour title by three shots at 19-under.
Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg fired a final-round 67 to clinch solo third at 14-under, while Dylan Naidoo was the next-best South African with his closing 70 putting him in a share of 25th on six-under-par. Jacques Kruyswijk was a further shot back in a share of 33rd with Zander Lombard and two others.
