Despite a double-bogey on Friday, Dean Burmester kept himself right in the mix with a second consecutive four-under-par round in the second round of the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic at St Simon’s Island in Georgia.

Burmester made seven birdies, a bogey and the double on his way to a 68 on the Plantation Course. Together with his opening four-under-par 66 on the Seaside Course at the resort, that moved him to eight-under and a share of 15th place. He was four shots behind the leaders, Andrew Putnam, Harry Higgs and Cole Hammer all of the United States. They led by one from countrymen Joel Dahmen and Beau Hossler. Burmester shared 15th with Seamus Power of Ireland and Americans Justin Suh and Patrick Rodgers.

Burmester started his round on the 10th, and was bogey-free through his front nine with birdies on 11, 13, 14 and 15. He picked up two more after the turn on two and four, but a poor attempted approach from the sixth fairway led to him having to take a penalty drop. He two-putted for his double. He responded with a birdie on the par-three seventh, but dropped again on the par-four ninth.

Fellow-South African MJ Daffue made the cut on the number after a four-under 68 for him to four-under for the tournament. Dylan Frittelli missed the cut by one, and Garrick Higgo by four.
