Wilco Nienaber stormed through the pack on Friday with nine birdies on his way to a seven-under-par 65 in the second round of the Challenge Tour’s Abu Dhabi Challenge at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
He dropped two shots as he moved to 10-under-par for the tournament and a share of third place. He was four behind the lead which was held by England’s Joshua Glenville-Wood, who had a bogey-free 65 to be one clear of countryman Tom Lewis.
Nienaber shared third with Brandon Stone, who had a second-successive five-under 67. Also on 10-under with the South Africans was Frenchman Julien Sale.
Keenan Davidse had a one-under 71 to move to three-under for the tournament and a share of 25th together with Casey Jarvis and Dylan Mostert. Jarvis also signed for a one-under 71, while Mostert had a one-over 73.
Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith was on two-under in a share of 36th while JJ Senekal was on one-under in a share of 47th. Jaco Prinsloo made the cut on the number at level-par after his second round of 72.
Ruan Conradie, Tristen Strydom and Luke Jerling all missed the cut.
