Louis Albertse went bogey-free on Thursday in the first round of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Hangzhou Open at Hangzhou West Lake Golf Club in China to be in a share of second on seven-under-par 65.

Albertse started his round on the 10th, and he picked up four birdies ahead of the turn. Three more on the homeward nine, and he was two shots off the lead which was held by Hamish Brown of Denmark. Brown’s 63 also contained seven birdes, and an added eagle.

Albertse shared second with Kristian Hjort Bressum of Denmark, Sweden’s Per Langfors and Jhared Hack of the United States. They were all one clear of the English duo of Chris Wood and Frank Kennedy who were on six-under-par 66 in a share of sixth.

Currently ranked eighth in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, a big week for Brown could see him all but guaranteed a DP World Tour card entering the Grand Final at the end of the month. He admitted that this is on his mind, but not something he is trying to focus on this week. “My approach this week isn’t different, but you can’t beat around the bush about it now. Everyone is wondering what they need, myself included, but I try not to think about it and take it one shot at a time.”

Albertse is also looking for a strong finish to the season: He’s currently 16th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, and the top 25 after the Grand Final in Mallorca are guaranteed DP World Tour cards.
