Bryce Easton’s share of 11th on Sunday in the HotelPlanner Tour’s Hangzhou Open at the Hangzhou West Lake Golf Club in China means he goes into the tour’s Grand Final in Mallorca on October 29 in 35th place.
Easton closed with a level-par 72 in the final round, after rounds of 69, 67 and 67, and, although he slipped five places down the leaderboard, his 72-hole total of 13-under-par put him eight shots behind the winner, Hamish Brown of Denmark.
Brown finished on 21-under-par, one clear of his countryman Kristian Hjort Bressum. The Danish pair was two clear of Italy’s Lorenzo Scalise and Dutchman Lars van der Vight in a share of third on 18-under.
Easton’s share of 11th saw him climb five spots to 35th on the Road to Mallorca rankings, with the top 45 making the Grand Final. He will have work to do at the end of the month, as only the top 20 players on the rankings after the final earn their DP World Tour cards.
Easton shared 11th with, amongst others, Scott Vincent, whose climb of three places on the rankings was just not enough to get him to Mallorca as he went to 48th place.
Louis Albertse finished in a share of 20th, and he remained in 16th place on the rankings, while MJ Viljoen’s share of 36th saw him slip two spots to 18th – still comfortably on his way to Mallorca, and in a good spot to get onto the DP World Tour. Deon Germishuys is also Mallorca-bound after his finish in a share of 44th saw him slip to 29th on the rankings with work to do on the island at the end of the month if his to graduate to the main tour.
Ryan van Velzen withdrew from the tournament in China, but his place in Mallorca is safe as he sits in 33rd place on the rankings.
Not so lucky was Wilco Nienaber, who needed a good week in Hangzhou to punch his ticket to Mallorca: He closed with a disappointing one-over 73 after rounds of 69, 70 and 67 had put him in a position to push for a place amongst the top 45. Instead, he dropped six spots to 49th, and will have to try again in 2027.
