Aldrich Potgieter carded a seven-under-par 64 on Thursday in the first round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
That put the big-hitting South African in fifth place, two-strokes off the lead which was held by American Kevin Roy at nine-under 62. Roy was one clear of three of his countrymen, Matt McCarty, Isaiah Salinda and Kyle Westmoreland. There were seven players on six-under 65, one shot behind Potgieter.
It was a bogey-free effort from Potgieter, with four birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine as he attempts to stay inside the Korn Ferry Tour’s top 25 as the season comes to its climax. That would get him promotion to the PGA Tour.
Christo Lamprecht opened with a one-under-par 70, which puts him in a position of needing a good second round to just make the cut.
