He opened with a bogey on Sunday, but he went on a birdie spree after that, and Garrick Higgo ended up with a superb eight-under-par 64 and a share of sixth in the final round of the PGA Tour’s Worldwide Technology Championship in Mexico.

He made six birdies on the front nine after that early drop, and three more on the back nine as he rounded off his best individual finish on the PGA Tour this season – he had a share of fourth in the team competition of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

While it doesn’t lift Higgo out of the woods as far as his PGA Tour eligibility for 2025 is concerned – he climbed to 138th on the FedExCup Fall rankings – it does perhaps signal a return to some kind of form which may well help him get something out of a poor season.

The only player to card a better final round than Higgo was the eventual winner: Austin Eckroat of the United States had a nine-under-par 63 to reach 24-under-par and hold off countrymen Justin Lower and Carson Young by one stroke.

Defending champion Erik van Rooyen finished with a three-over 75 to slip to a share of 64th on three-under for the week.
