Dean Burmester was the best-placed of the South Africans after the second round on Saturday of LIV Golf-Andalucia at Real Golf Valderrama in Sotogrande, San Roque, Spain.
Burmester was in a share of 28th in the 48-man field after a second round of three-over-par 74 to add to his opening one-under 70. At two-over for the 54-hole event, he was 11 shots behind the leader Bryson Dechambeau, who had an eagle and six birdies in his eight-under 63, which took him to nine-under and a one-stroke lead of Talor Gooch. Brooks Koepka was two shots further back on six-under in third.
In a share of 28th with Burmester was Charl Schwartzel who had a second round of two-over-par 73. The South African team captain, Louis Oosthuizen, who had a second round of one-over 72, was in a share of 32nd and Branden Grace had a one-over 72 to slip to a share of 41st.
It’s not been a good week for the South African team Stinger GC, who find themselves in 10th place out of 12 teams.
