Barend Botha’s brilliant closing round of 10-under-par 61 on Sunday saw him finish in third place in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The fast finish helped him climb 30 places on the leaderboard, with his 16-under-par total for the tournament putting him two strokes behind the winner, Sandy Scott of Scotland. He also jumped 19 places on the Korn Ferry Tour points list to 36th.

Botha’s closing round was bogey-free, with eight birdies and an eagle-three on the 539-yard par-five 12th, where he made a putt of just over 18 feet after reaching the green in two.

He opened the tournament with a four-under-par 67, and two rounds of just one-under 70 left him with a lot of work to do to climb the leaderboard on the last day.

He carded his career-low round to break the 18-hole tournament scoring record of 62 by one shot.

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship was the second of four season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Finals events. The top 100 players on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List qualify for the Compliance Solutions Championship on October 1. The top 20 players on the final Korn Ferry Tour Points List earn PGA Tour cards after the Korn Ferry Tour Championship on October 8.
