A four-under-par 68 on Sunday for Ernie Els was not enough to hold off a flying Padraig Harrington in the PGA Tour Champions Dick’s Sporting Goods Open at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, New York.

Els, who was in the lead heading into the final round, closed with a bogey after making five birdies, but even a par at the final hole would not have been enough to ward off Harrington, who had a nine-under-par 63 to move to 18-under-par and a one-stroke win over Joe Durant of the United States. Els was on 16-under in third.

Harrington raced through the homeward nine in 28 strokes, picking up seven shots with five birdies and an eagle from the 12th to the 17th.

Retief Goosen had a strong finish, with his five-under-par 67 lifting him 10 places on the leaderboard into a share of 10th on 10-under for the tournament with Vijay Singh of Fiji.
