A bogey on the last hole on Thursday didn’t do too much to spoil the opening four-under-par 68 Deon Germishuys carded in the first round of the Challenge Tour’s Big Green Egg German Challenge at Wittelsbacher Golfclub.
Germishuys had made five birdies at that stage, without dropping a shot, and was looking in the kind of form which won him his first Sunshine Tour title in the Sishen Classic back in May. In the end, four-under put him in a share of eighth, four shots behind the first-round leader Tadeas Tetak of Slovakia, who was bogey-free for his eight-under 64. Tetak led by one from Manuel Elvira of Spain.
Next best of the South Africans was Pieter Moolman on two-under in a share of 26th, with Rupert Kaminski and Keenan Davidse on one-under in 52nd. Ruan Conradie and Tristen Strydom were on one-over, while Jayden Schaper struggled to a seven-over 79.
