Zander Lombard got off to a good start on Thursday in the first round of the DP World Tour’s Singapore Classic at Laguna National Golf Resort Club when he carded a five-under-par 67.
His seven birdies and a double-bogey took him to a share of ninth with eight other players, three shots behind the leader Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland. McKibbin had a bogey-free round and led Simon Forsstrom and Joakim Lagergren of Sweden, France’s Matthieu Pavon and Finn Sami Valimaki, who all carded seven-under 65, by one.
Lombard continued his good form from last week, where he finished second in the Ras al Kaimah Championship in the UAE.
Justin Walters was the next-best of the South Africans on two-under-par in a share of 36th, while Daniel van Tonder, Ockie Strydom, Deon Germishuys, Bryce Easton and George Coetzee were all on one-under in a share of 50th.
Jayden Schaper and Albert Venter were on level-par, MJ Viljoen was on one-over, Thriston Lawrence and Louis de Jager on three-over, and Jake Redman brought up the rear of the field in 132nd after struggling to eight-over-par.
