Retief Goosen had a bogey-free closing three-under-par 68 on Sunday to finish in a share of 11th in the PGA Tour Champions Hoag Classic at Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach, California.

The two-time US Open champion finished the 54-hole tournament on six-under-par, which put him eight shots behind the winner, Padraig Harrington on Ireland. Harrington closed with a two-under-par 69 to maintain his one-stroke margin over runner-up Tongchai Jaidee of Thailand. Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain was third on 12-under, with Canada’s Stephen Ames on 11-under in fourth.

Harrington, 52, rebounded from a potentially devastating double-bogey at the 16th hole of Sunday’s final round, closing with birdies on 17 and 18.

With this victory, Harrington moves from 31st  to fifth on the Charles Schwab Cup standings, as he eyes his first season-long title on PGA Tour Champions. He turned 50 in August 2021 and has quickly established himself as one of the Champions Tour’s players to beat, even though he still relishes the chance to compete on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour
