James Kingston carded a five-under-par 66 on Friday in the first round of the Legends Tour’s Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy – and that left him a staggering six shots off the lead.
The first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament were played at the Bay Course and the remainder will be decided over the International Olympic Academy.
Kingston started shakily with bogeys on the third and fourth, but he got his round back on the rails with a birdie on the eighth. He really got going after the turn, making four birdies and an eagle-three on the par-five 15th.
He shared eighth with four other players. The lead was held by Scott Hend of Australia and England’s Robert Coles. They each carded a superb 11-under-par 60. Hend’s round started with a bogey, and had eight birdies and two eagles, while Coles was bogey-free with an eagle and nine birdies. They led by one from Mikael Lundberg of Sweden.
Adilson Da Silva and Keith Horne were on two-under-par 69.
