Luke Mayo went one clear at the top of the leaderboard on Wednesday with a four-under-par 66 in the second round of the Bushveld Tour’s Hamilton’s Series #3 at Killarney Country Club.
Mayo made four birdies in a bogey-free round, and he moved to five-under-par for the 54-hole tournament through 36 holes. That put him one clear of Pierre Pellegrin, who had a five-under-par 65 to climb into second place on his own. Pellegrin had six birdies and a bogey on his card.
In a share of third after the second round were first-round leader Jason Froneman and Andre van Dyk. Froneman signed for a two-over-par 72 and Van Dyk had a 71 as they were level-par through 36 holes.
Rigardt Albertse and amateur Sam McKenzie were in a share of fifth on one-over-par after rounds of 69 and 71 respectively.
There is one more tournament in the series after this one – at Centurion on May 30. The Order of Merit for the four-event series carries a purse of R40,000 for the player who tops it at the end of the series, provided he’s played two events or more.
