Louis Oosthuizen closed off his round on Friday with six consecutive birdies in the first round of LIV Golf’s Tucson event in Arizona to storm into a share of second position in five-under-par.
The tournament was led by Marc Leishman of Australia on six-under-par, and Oosthuizen shared second with Abraham Ancer of Mexico and Matthew Wolff of the United States.
In the shotgun start, Oosthuizen started his round on the third hole, and made eight consecutive pars before making bogey on the 11th. There were three more pars before he went on his scoring spree in a clear indication he is rounding into form ahead of the Masters next month.
Branden Grace had three birdies and a double-bogey in his one-under-par 70 for a share of 23rd in the 48-man field. Dean Burmester was on one-over in a share of 36th, and Charl Schwartzel was on two-over in a share of 43rd.
The South African team, Stinger GC, was in a share of eighth on a combined five-under – the best three scores count. That was five behind Torque GC, with David Puig, Joaquin Niemann and Sebastian Munoz counting.
