Lee-Anne Pace led for some time on Saturday in the third round of the ISPS Handa World Invitational, and she eventually carded a three-under-par 70 to head into the final round of the joint Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour event in a share of eighth.
Pace was superb on the front nine at Galgorm Castle in Northern Ireland, making birdies on the first two holes, and then reeling off four in a row from the fourth hole as she raced to the top of the leaderboard at 11-under for the tournament. She dropped a shot on the eighth, but got back to 11-under with a birdie on the ninth. Things went quiet for her after the turn however, and she gave away three shots with bogeys on 12, 15, and 16.
At eight-under for the tournament, she was four shots behind the woman who has led from the start, Amanda Doherty of the United States. Doherty signed for a one-under 72, and, at 12-under, she led by one from Peiyun Chien of Chinese Taipei and England’s Georgia Hall. The two players in second, like Pace, had three-under 70s.
Pace will play the final round in the company of England’s Liz Young and the young Swedish start Linn Grant, who played so well in South Africa at the beginning of the year.
