An eagle on the 11th helped Arno Pretorius to be the only player to go under par on Monday in the first round of the Bushveld Tour’s three-day event at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate.

Pretorius carded a two-under-par 70 to lead by two shots after the first round which was played on the full-length Signature Course. The second round will be played on the par-three Whistling Thorn course, and the final round will be back on the Signature Course.

In second was Keelan Africa, who had four birdies and four bogeys for his level-par opening round, while there were four players – Coert Groenewald, Leon Visser, Stuart Krog and amateur Yurav Premlall – all on one-over in a share of third.

Pretorius made bogey on the fourth, and regained that dropped shot with a birdie on eight. His eagle came on the par-five 11th to take him to two-under, and he made two more birdies on 13 and 18. The gain on 13 was sandwiched between two bogeys on 12 and 14.
