It was a quiet day at the noisy office which was LIV Golf-Nashville as Charl Schwartzel led a tame start from the four South Africans in Stinger GC with a two-under-par 69 in the first round at The Grove in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the shotgun start, Schwartzel started his round on the 16th with a birdie, and made another at the 18th. But he dropped four shots on his way to the sixth, after which he picked birdies on eight, 10 and 15. He was five shots off the lead which was held by Abraham Ancer of Mexico, Ander’s bogey-free 64 put him one clear of Tyrrell Hatton, with John Catlin, a stand-in player for Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC team, in third on an entertaining five-under.

DeChambeau was one of four players on four-under in a share of fourth, while Branden Grace, Dean Burmester and Louis Oosthuizen were the next-best of the South Africans, in a share of 20th in the 54-man field on one-under.

In the team contest, Stinger GC was in a share of sixth place on four-under, 10 shots behind Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC.
