Erik van Rooyen got a nice boost on this week’s Official World Golf Ranking list as he jumped 24 places as a result of his share of eighth in the DP World Tour’s Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
Van Rooyen is ranked 211th in the world after that performance, and he swopped places with Hennie du Plessis in eighth place in the list of the top 20 South African players according to the rankings.
The man with whom he shared eighth in Switzerland, Oliver Bekker, somehow dropped six places to 203rd.
Someone who did get a reward in the rankings – which are becoming increasingly difficult to understand – for a good performance in Switzerland was JC Ritchie. He had a share of 24th, and he climbed 12 places to 305th.
For the first time in a very long time, South Africa does not have a single player inside the world’s top 100.
