Justin Walters has left himself with a shot at victory after a third round of four-under-par 67 on Saturday put him in a share of fifth in the Challenge Tour’s Italian Challenge Open, just four strokes off the lead.
Walters climbed to 11-under-par through 54 holes, with an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys on his scorecard for the third round.
At the top of the leaderboard, England’s John Parry had a six-under-par 65 as he moved to 15-under-par and a two-stroke lead over Ireland’s Conor Purcell. Finn Oliver Lindell, who had a superb nine-under 62, and Sam Hutsby of England shared third on 12-under, and Walters shared fifth with Josh Hilleard of England.
JC Ritchie stayed inside the top 20 with a three-under-par 68 putting him on seven-under in a share of 19th.
Wilco Nienaber had a one-over 72 in the third round to slip to four-under for the tournament in a share of 42nd. It was an up-and-down round for Nienaber, with an eagle, two birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on his card.
Louis Albertse had a level-par 71 and he was on two-under in a share of 51st.
