Erik van Rooyen carded a level-par 70 on Friday to stay in touch with the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the PGA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario.

While his three birdies and three bogeys saw him slip seven places down the leaderboard into a share of 13th, at four-under-par he was just six strokes off the lead. Topping the leaderboard were Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox on 10-under-par. They were two strokes clear of Joel Dahmen of the United States in third place.

The leading Canadian was Mackenzie Hughes in a share of fourth on seven-under. With him in fourth was first-round leader David Skinns of England whohad a one-over 71 in his second round.

Garrick Higgo carded a second successive one-under-par 69 to be in a share of 21st.

It’s a big week for Van Rooyen who needs a strong performance to stay inside the top 50 in the FedExCup rankings in order to play in next week’s Signature Event, the Memorial. He’s currently 48th and projected to rise to 46th as things stand.
