The Sunshine Ladies Tour had just six tournaments in 2021, but they were of critical importance for the professional game in South Africa as Casandra Hall grabbed her opportunities better than most to look the player most likely to do even better in 2022.
There will be seven tournaments in 2022, and a lot more prize money at stake, but Hall will be hard-pressed to better her four top-10 finishes from 2021, which included the second win of her career on the circuit when she took the Joburg Ladies Open in Soweto in April.
She added a ninth-place finish in the Cape Town Ladies Open, a share of seventh in the SuperSport Ladies Challenge, and a tie for second in the Dimension Data Ladies Challenge.
And although her campaign in Europe perhaps didn’t meet her own high expectations, she did manage to finish in second on the Investec Order of Merit behind the South African Women’s Open champion Lee-Anne Pace, and one ahead of Nicole Garcia in third.
It was her attacking mindset which served her well in 2021, as she led the field in birdies made with 69 in those six tournaments – at an average of 3.69 per round in the 19 tournament rounds she played. She also made four eagles, while she was seventh in driving distance at 259.71 metres, 10th in stroke average at 73.95 and eighth in greens in regulation at 68.83 percent.
When the SunBet Cape Town Ladies Open rolls around on February 2 next year, she will certainly be ready to be as attacking as ever and looking to go one better on the Order of Merit.
